From Ashes to Home: Helping a Military Family Start Again
A young military family from Camp Pendleton with twin boys with autism and special needs lost everything when a devastating house fire destroyed their home. In a matter of moments, their furniture, clothing, sensory items, and essential belongings were gone. With two children requiring additional care and no nearby family support, starting over felt overwhelming.
Make It Your Home stepped in to transform an empty space into a fully furnished home filled with comfort, dignity, and stability. With the help of generous donors and volunteers, we created safe sleeping spaces, calming and functional areas designed to support the twins’ sensory needs, a welcoming living room, and a dining area where this family can begin to rebuild their daily routines.
Young military families often relocate far from relatives and support systems, making unexpected crises even more difficult. When children have special needs, a stable and thoughtfully designed environment becomes even more important. Our goal is to remove the burden of replacing everything on their own by providing a complete, trauma informed home installation at absolutely no cost to the family.
Make It Your Home furnishes homes for families facing crisis including domestic violence survivors, young military families, immigrants, and families transitioning out of homelessness. Every piece of furniture, every volunteer hour, and every donation helps restore dignity, stability, and hope.
