The Deneau family

The Deneau family worked hard to provide for their little boy, but with money tight and only mismatched furniture, their home never felt like a place of comfort. Every meal was eaten at their son’s tiny Mickey Mouse play table, the only spot they had to gather. Make It Your Home stepped in and gave them a real dining table, turning mealtime into a moment of connection, laughter, and love they had been missing. From a play table to a family table, thanks to our donors and volunteers, the Deneaus finally have a place to gather and connect.

The Deneau family did everything to keep their little one safe and happy. Their home was filled with toys, baby gates, and child proofing, yet in the process, they lost a sense of living as a family. Money was tight, and with bills stacking up, there was never room in the budget for additional furniture. The few pieces they had were mismatched items bought when they first got married, leaving their home feeling cramped and overfilled. But what really got our attention was the nonexistent dining room. Their only “dining table” was their son’s small Mickey Mouse play table, where every family meal was squeezed in.

That all changed when Make It Your Home stepped in. We refreshed their space by updating their couch, creating a beautiful bedroom, and designing a cohesive kids’ room, but nothing compared to the moment we added a dining room set. With that one simple gift, the Deneaus were finally able to sit down and share meals together. For the first time, their 5 year old son sat with his parents at a real table where home cooked meals could be enjoyed side by side.

Having dinner as a family is not just about food, it is about connection. It is where laughter is shared, stories are told, and love grows stronger. For the Deneaus, a table became more than furniture, it became the heart of their home. They discovered the dignity, joy, and closeness that every hardworking family deserves: the chance to gather, connect, and truly feel at home.
